Hello lovely,
Poetry crept up on me, quietly. It was never something I did religiously as a child, or a burning dream if you will. Although, I do remember enjoying writing, and a poem I wrote at school for Valentine’s Day that got featured on the board. That was a proud day.
Other than that I guess you could say poetry wasn’t on my radar, that was up until around 2019/2020 when I began writing lines and short poems on the notes app on my phone. It began after a period of deep anxiety and was born out of a way to release that.
Perhaps you could say from my earlier childhood sleepwalking dream, that I was destined to become a poet, I just wasn’t conscious of it at the time. That the universe had always had its plan, its divine timing.
‘To slow down is to notice that which we once unknowingly ignored.’
Poetry opened my soul up to the world around me, of noticing things I had once ignored. Small drops of dew on each blade of grass in the mornings, intricate colours of the flowers, how the rain has a certain smell and how its sound soothes my soul, the way the sunlight hits trees and creates delicate shadows on the ground, the beauty in each soft rolling wave, the birds singing their sweet songs - spoken word at its finest.
Slowing down to notice the small things and write poems about them helped me to be more mindful, notice my feelings and appreciate life more.
In 2021, I began sharing my poetry on Instagram. It was incredibly nerve-wracking at the time, putting myself and words out into the world. But one thing that I didn’t know was how beautiful the poetry community would be. Over these last 3 years I have made some wonderful friends and have been supported in ways I could never have imagined.
It’s because of that community and the feeling of deep connection, that I was greeted with the idea of creating something similar here. Somewhere for people to write poetry, perhaps who have never done so before and be celebrated for their words.
And so, Wild Love was born.
Wild Love is an intuitive guide to the art of noticing.
Essentially, it’s learning to romanticise the everyday world around you and write about what you notice, feel and experience in an intuitive way.
I don’t profess to be an expert at poetry. Some days I don’t even feel as though I can call myself a poet. But what I can share is my experience and how poetry and writing have changed my life in so many wonderful ways.
Wild Love will be a place of deep community, and my aim is to flow with the seasons. There will be seasonal inspiration/mood boards, poetry and journaling prompts, and maybe even video calls every so often where we come together to write and inspire one another. Ooh, and occasional surprises!
Wild Love will be a paid segment within my newsletter, simply because of the amount of time it will take me to create everything each season. However, I plan to include free elements of it, because I believe poetry should be available to everyone and I don’t want there to be a huge barrier to those who cannot choose a paid subscription for whatever reason.
I don’t have a release date yet, and at this moment in time I’m not sure when it will be ready - although I’m hoping for sometime this year. But I’m currently squirrelling away behind the scenes, creating something beautiful that is deeply rooted in community and belonging. So, if you feel called to this journey, please do subscribe and follow along for future updates.
I can’t wait to see what this new journey will bring.
If you would like to support me further, why not check out my collection of poetry books?
Love this Jenna! I love poetry for the same reasons too. It’s the language of rebels. Carefully crafting words to speak to the soul. It gets you to shift your perspective and infuse love into everything you see and feel. It invites you to open your heart more. ❤️
Sounds great
